Equipment Rentals

The Ouray Via Ferrata route requires mandatory gear that you may or may not have with you.

Minimum Required Equipment on the Ouray Via Ferrata include:

  • EN958 Certified Via Ferrata Energy Absorbing System (EAS)
  • EN12492 Certified Helmet – Mountaineering
  • EN 12277 Certified Harness – Mountaineering
  • Use of non-certified or improvised equipment may result in death or serious injury
  • CHECK YOUR EQUIPMENT FOR LEGIBLE LABELS AND CONDITION!

Renting Gear for the OVF

SJMGIf you need to rent this gear, contact San Juan Mountain Guides by email ([email protected]), or phone (970-946-0713; call or text). Or you can stop by their shop at 710 Main Street in Ouray, right next to the True Value Hardware Store. SJMG rents helmets, harnesses, and Via Ferrata EAS Lanyards exclusively from Petzl Equipment. Daily gear packages start at $30 per day. SJMG also sells this equipment at their pro shop on Main St.

Basecamp Ouray also rents gear for the OVF – harnesses, helmets, & lanyards. Their location is 630 Main Street Ouray CO. Daily gear packages start at $40 per day.  Contact them at 970.318.9828 or by email [email protected]

Purchasing Gear for the OVF

Ouray Mountain SportsIf you would like to purchase gear, head on down to Ouray Mountain Sports (970-325-4284). Ouray’s premier mountain gear shop is located at 732 Main Street in Ouray, just down the street from SJMG’s guide shop. They offer a wide selection of harnesses, helmets, and Via Ferrata specific EAS Lanyards.
